Bibb Co., GA - Two Killed in Wreck on Mercer University Dr near Edwards Ave

Bibb Co., GA (March 23, 2025) – Two people lost their lives after a fatal collision in Bibb County. Police say the wreck occurred at approximately 5:09 a.m. on Thursday morning, March 20. Reports show a Dodge Durango and a Hyundai Elantra were involved in a head-on crash on  Mercer University Drive near Edwards Avenue.

A 51-year-old man occupied the Durango while a 29-year-old woman, a 9-year-old boy, and a 37-year-old man were inside of the Elantra. All victims were taken to Atrium Navicent Health to be treated for injuries they sustained in the wreck. The 37-year-old man, identified as Javaughn Raheen Hackney, lost his life shortly after arriving at the hospital. Later that day, the 51-year-old was found unresponsive in his home after leaving the hospital. He was pronounced deceased by the coroner’s office. Medical staff reported the victim left the hospital against their advice. His name has not been reported at this time. Police in Bibb County continue to investigate the incident.
