Vienna, GA (February 12, 2026) – One person was hospitalized on Wednesday, February 11, after a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Vienna. The crash happened around 11:52 p.m. while troopers were already handling another wreck that had closed two lanes.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, three vehicles were traveling south in the right lane and one in the middle lane when the chain reaction began. The first driver didn’t see the stopped traffic ahead and tried to steer right, but struck the vehicle in front.
The impact pushed the second vehicle forward. Its attached trailer swung into the middle lane and hit a fourth car. The first vehicle spun off the west shoulder, and the cab separated from its frame before landing on its side.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and found the driver trapped inside. Firefighters freed the injured person and took them to a nearby hospital. Officials have not released an update on their condition.
Troopers examined the scene, gathered witness accounts, and reviewed roadway evidence to determine how the crash happened. The Georgia State Patrol continues to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish them a full and steady recovery.
What Are the Common Causes of Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Georgia?
Following too closely is a major cause of chain-reaction crashes. When one car brakes suddenly, those behind often have no space to stop. On crowded interstates, one mistake can lead to several rear-end impacts within seconds.
Distracted driving is another leading factor. Texting, taking calls, or adjusting navigation systems takes eyes off the road long enough to miss slowing traffic. In fast-moving lanes, that short lapse can trigger a pileup.
Unsafe lane changes also create danger. Merging without checking blind spots or cutting into tight gaps forces nearby drivers to swerve or brake suddenly. One careless move can cause several crashes across lanes.
Impaired driving remains a serious risk. Alcohol or drugs slow reaction time and reduce awareness. An impaired driver can drift between lanes or fail to notice stopped traffic, causing a chain of crashes.
Speeding or driving too fast for conditions makes every crash worse. Even within speed limits, failing to slow for rain, curves, or congestion shortens the stopping distance. High-speed impacts often push vehicles into others nearby.
Weather also plays a role in Georgia’s multi-vehicle collisions. Rain, fog, and icy bridges reduce traction and visibility. Drivers who don’t adjust their speed in bad weather often lose control and hit other vehicles.
