Twiggs Co., GA (February 13, 2026) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred on Tuesday, February 10, at approximately 6:50 p.m. in the area of Georgia State Route 96 near East Main Street.
When troopers from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) arrived, they found a female pedestrian lying beside the road near Gallimore Mill Road. The victim was later identified as 52-year-old Andrea Anderson of Jeffersonville, according to Twiggs County Coroner Herald Reese.
Preliminary investigation indicates that an unknown vehicle traveling west on Georgia 96 struck Anderson. After the impact, the vehicle continued west toward Jeffersonville.
Traffic in the area was impacted while officials documented evidence and worked to determine how the collision occurred. Highway closures were in effect until approximately 10:30 p.m. as the GSP and Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office conducted their investigation.
At this time, authorities have not released further details regarding the driver. They are actively searching for a silver Dodge truck with front-end damage and a damaged passenger-side headlight. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 945-3357.
We send our sincere condolences to the family members of the deceased victim during this challenging time.
How Families Can Protect Their Rights After a Georgia Pedestrian Accident
Under Georgia law, eligible family members may pursue a wrongful death claim following a fatal pedestrian crash. These claims can seek compensation for lost wages, benefits, and intangible losses, including care, guidance, and companionship.
Separate legal actions may also cover medical costs incurred before death, property damage, and other accident-related expenses such as travel for medical treatment or therapy sessions.
In Georgia, recent data show persistent pedestrian danger on the roads. In 2023, the state recorded roughly 310 pedestrian fatalities, making up about 19% of all traffic deaths (nearly one in five), with many occurring on high-speed roads and in urban areas. Pedestrian deaths remain well above levels from a decade ago, reflecting an ongoing safety challenge.
Determining liability in Twiggs County pedestrian accidents can be complex. Investigators examine vehicle speed, driver attentiveness, lighting and visibility conditions, roadway design, signage, and compliance with traffic laws.
Evidence often includes witness statements, surveillance footage, and accident reconstruction reports. Insurance companies may attempt to minimize payouts or shift blame, making it essential for families to seek a wrongful death lawyer to protect their legal rights and pursue full pedestrian accident compensation.
Navigating the aftermath of a fatal pedestrian crash can be overwhelming. Legal guidance ensures that families understand their rights, preserve crucial evidence, and communicate effectively with insurance companies.
A wrongful death attorney can help pursue accountability and maximize compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and other damages related to the accident.
