Tift Co., GA - Woman, Two Kids Killed in Crash on GA-520

Tift County, GA (June 17, 2025) – A devastating collision along GA 520 (US 82) claimed the lives of a woman and two young children Monday afternoon, June 16, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The fatal crash occurred near mile marker 4 at approximately 12:12 p.m.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that a 2023 Ram 2500 truck, which was towing a trailer, was traveling eastbound when it veered across the median. The truck struck the driver’s side of a westbound 2024 Chrysler Pacifica, causing both vehicles to leave the north side of the highway.

The truck overturned during the impact, ejecting a 4-year-old child passenger. Authorities say the truck came to rest on its right side. The Pacifica, which was carrying five occupants, ended up facing east on the highway’s north shoulder.

GSP identified the driver of the truck as 34-year-old Homer Tyson of Leesburg. The child ejected from the truck was transported to Tift Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Driving the Chrysler Pacifica was 52-year-old Rebecca Baker of Tifton. Inside the vehicle were four children, ages 2, 5, 7, and 10. Tragically, Baker, along with the 2-year-old and 5-year-old children, was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 7-year-old was taken by ambulance to Tift Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the 10-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, in serious condition.

GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is actively assisting in the ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the families affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
