Georgia Car Crashes
Traffic accidents are an unfortunate, frequent occurrence in Georgia, often leading to severe injuries and, tragically, fatalities. In 2023 alone, Georgia saw over 1,780 lives lost in car crashes, many of which could have been prevented. Driver negligence continues to be the leading cause of these accidents, a concerning trend not just in Georgia but across the United States.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an overwhelming 90% of car crashes nationwide are caused by negligent driving behaviors. In Georgia, these unsafe practices are the primary cause of accidents, with the most common forms of negligence including:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Distracted driving, like texting or using a phone
- Speeding not only increases the likelihood of an accident but also its severity
- Driving while fatigued, which can be as dangerous as driving under the influence
The toll of these negligent behaviors on national roads is staggering, with speeding alone causing over 12,000 deaths annually, while distracted driving leads to over 3,000 fatalities each year. Crashes caused by these factors tend to be more severe, underscoring the importance of remaining attentive and responsible when driving.
Georgia’s roads mirror these troubling national statistics, with distracted and high-speed driving frequently contributing to the dangers motorists face daily. When drivers fail to practice safe driving, they not only jeopardize their own safety but the safety of everyone around them.
