Athens, GA – 2 Dead, 2 Critically Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on GA-10 Inner Loop

Athens, GA (December 22, 2025) – Two people were killed and two others critically injured in a wrong-way crash involving four vehicles early on December 21 on the GA-10 Inner Loop, according to Athens-Clarke County Police.

Police say the crash happened just after midnight. Officers were initially alerted to a wrong-way driver traveling on the Inner Loop near Chase Street. Moments later, reports came in of a multi-vehicle crash near Oglethorpe Avenue.

Investigators determined that 26-year-old Desiree Browning of Lawrenceville was driving a 2021 Kia Seltos in the wrong direction. The Kia first made contact with a Mercedes-Benz, then struck a 2020 Ford Expedition before crashing head-on into a 2017 Toyota Camry. The Kia came to rest on the cable barriers and caught fire.

Browning was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Soonhoon Choi of Athens, also died from his injuries. A passenger in the Toyota was critically injured and taken to a hospital. The drivers and passengers in the Mercedes-Benz and Ford Expedition suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are actively pursuing leads.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of those who lost their lives. We also send our best wishes for recovery to those injured in this crash.

Wrong-Way and Multi-Vehicle Crashes in AthensAthens, GA – 2 Dead, 2 Critically Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on GA-10 Inner Loop

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous and deadly types of collisions. In cities like Athens, where roadways like the GA-10 Inner Loop carry high-speed traffic, a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction can lead to devastating outcomes within seconds.

These accidents often result in head-on collisions, which carry a much higher fatality rate than other crash types. When multiple vehicles are involved, the potential for serious injury or death increases significantly.

Victims injured in wrong-way crashes—especially passengers who had no control over the situation—may be entitled to file personal injury claims. These claims can help cover medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and long-term care expenses. For the families of those who died, a wrongful death claim can provide compensation for funeral costs, emotional distress, and the loss of financial support.

Investigators typically rely on dashcam footage, accident reconstruction, toxicology reports, and witness statements to understand how and why a wrong-way crash occurred. Impairment, confusion, or lack of signage can all be contributing factors.

If you or a loved one has been injured—or if you’ve lost someone—in a wrong-way or multi-vehicle crash, speaking with an experienced wrongful death attorney can help you understand your legal rights and options.
