Two Killed, One Seriously Injured in Head On Crash on U.S. Highway 301

Statesboro, GA (October 22, 2025) – A devastating car accident in Statesboro claimed two lives and left another person critically injured on Tuesday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred just after 7 p.m. on U.S. Highway 301 near Joe Kennedy Road, directly in front of the GSP patrol post. Sgt. Robert Scott with GSP-Statesboro reported that a Chevrolet Malibu traveling north in the right lane crossed over three lanes of traffic and collided head-on with a Mazda CX-5 heading south.

Both occupants of the Malibu were pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact. The driver of the Mazda sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The victims’ names have not yet been released pending notification of their families.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the Malibu to cross the center line and whether speed, distraction, or impairment played a role in the crash.

We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.

Deadly Head-On Collisions: A Persistent Threat on Georgia Highways

Two Killed, One Seriously Injured in Head On Crash on U.S. Highway 301

Head-on crashes, like the one on U.S. Hwy 301, are among the most violent types of motor vehicle accidents, often resulting in catastrophic injuries or fatalities. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, head-on collisions account for a small percentage of total crashes each year but contribute disproportionately to highway deaths.

These types of accidents often occur when a driver drifts across lanes due to distraction, fatigue, or impaired driving. In rural areas or on two-lane highways with limited visibility, a momentary lapse in attention can have devastating consequences. The impact force in a head-on collision typically doubles the speed of each vehicle, leaving little chance for survival, especially when seatbelts aren’t used or airbags fail to deploy effectively.

Similarly, those who survive such crashes may be entitled to financial recovery for their injuries, lost wages, and ongoing treatment. Working with our experienced wrongful death attorney in Georgia ensures that victims and families receive the guidance and representation they need during this painful time.
