Schley Co., GA (March 27, 2025) – Police in Georgia are currently investigating a collision that occurred on Highway 19 involving 12 vehicles. Troopers at the scene report the initial collision happened between two vehicles at the intersection of Highway 19 near Old Highway 19 in Schley County. Responders were at the scene at approximately 7:50 a.m. on March 25. Preliminary reports indicate the crash happened when a green 2013 Ford Fusion collided with a silver 2017 Ford Fusion on Highway 19 in the left southbound lane. This caused the silver Fusion to break down. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and make it to safety on the right shoulder. Shortly after, a tractor-trailer was traveling south on Highway 19 when it struck the silver Ford Fusion. The semi fled the scene without stopping, police said. Due to the initial crash, several other vehicles ended up colliding in the area. Eight people were transported to Phoebe Sumter by emergency medical services. Police say both the northbound and southbound lanes of US 19 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours due to the crash. Police in Schley County continue to investigate.
We hope for the full recovery of the injured victims.
Georgia Traffic Accidents
Georgia sees a significant number of traffic accidents each year, with more than 300,000 crashes reported annually. These accidents lead to injuries for over 150,000 people, and sadly, thousands of lives are lost. Most of these accidents could have been prevented as they are often caused by negligent driving.
Negligent driving has become a growing concern across the U.S., especially in recent years. Studies show that over 94% of traffic accidents are linked to driver negligence. Some of the most common forms of negligent driving include:
- Driving under the influence
- Distractions, like using a phone
- Fatigue
- Speeding
In just one year, speeding was a factor in the deaths of more than 12,000 people on U.S. roads, while distracted driving contributed to over 400,000 crashes. Accidents caused by negligent driving are often more severe, highlighting the importance of staying focused, alert, and sober behind the wheel.
