Savannah, GA - Suspect in Police Chase HIts, Kills Darren Lewis on Liberty Pkwy

Savannah, GA (March 20, 2025) – Police in Savannah responded to the scene of a collision on Liberty Parkway and Upson on Tuesday, March 19. Savannah Police and the Georgia State Patrol were at the scene shortly after the wreck occurred in order to render aid and investigate. Police say a silver Jeep Compass was evading an SPD vehicle when it struck a maroon Chevrolet Malibu that was attempting to pull onto the parkway. Sadly, the driver of the Malibu lost their life at the scene. The victim was identified as Darren Lewis. The suspect was arrested by Savannah Police and charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI, hit and run resulting in serious injury or death, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, traveling too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Police in Savannah continue to investigate the details of the accident.
