Rome, GA – Teen Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Dry Creek Rd

Pedestrian in His 60s Struck and Killed on Mountain Industrial Blvd

Rome, GA (October 10, 2025) – A heartbreaking accident on Thursday, October 9, claimed the life of a 15-year-old motorcyclist in Floyd County. Authorities confirmed that the crash happened around 4:18 p.m. on Dry Creek Road, involving a red Honda XR400 motorcycle and a Tesla Model S.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the teenage motorcyclist, identified as Elijah Andrew Espy, was traveling north on Dry Creek Rd when the southbound Tesla began to slow in order to make a left turn into a private driveway. Tragically, the motorcycle collided with the right passenger side of the Tesla, throwing Espy from his bike upon impact.

Emergency crews, including Floyd County Police, EMS, and fire personnel, responded to the scene. Despite immediate efforts to save his life, Espy was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that the driver of the Tesla, identified as 61-year-old Irving Hendrick, was not injured in the crash.

Investigators from the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team were called to examine the crash site. They are working to determine whether speed, visibility, or other factors contributed to the collision. The roadway was temporarily closed to traffic while law enforcement documented evidence and cleared debris.

Espy, a student at Armuchee High School, was remembered by friends and teachers as a kind and spirited young man who loved motorcycles and outdoor adventures. His sudden passing has deeply affected the local community, and grief counselors have been made available to support students and staff at his school.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Teen Killed in Tragic Motorcycle Crash on Dry Creek Rd

Motorcycle accidents continue to be one of the most devastating types of traffic collisions across Georgia, often leading to severe or fatal injuries. According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, motorcyclists are nearly 30 times more likely to die in crashes compared to passengers in other vehicles. Many of these incidents occur on rural roads like Dry Creek Rd, where visibility is limited and sudden turns or driveway entries can become deadly hazards.

The majority of motorcycle crashes involve collisions with other vehicles, particularly during left-turn maneuvers, as seen in this tragic case. Drivers often fail to recognize oncoming motorcycles or misjudge their speed, resulting in catastrophic consequences.
