Jackson County, GA (October 14, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 left seven people dead and several others injured on Monday, October 13. The Georgia Department of Public Safety (GDPS) reported that the deadly collision occurred at approximately 4:11 p.m. in Jackson County when a semi-trailer traveling northbound struck a Dodge van from behind.
According to preliminary findings, the semi-trailer collided with the van, thus triggering a catastrophic chain reaction. The van erupted into flames on impact, and four additional vehicles became involved in the ensuing collisions. Responding officers described the scene as chaotic, with multiple vehicles severely damaged and debris scattered across several lanes of the highway.
Emergency responders, including local fire and medical units, arrived promptly to extinguish the fire and assist those involved. Despite their efforts, all seven occupants of the van were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identities pending notification of family members. The driver of the semi-trailer and others involved sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation to determine the precise sequence of events and contributing factors. Preliminary reports suggest that driver inattention and following too closely may have played roles in the tragic crash. The northbound lanes of I-85 remained closed for over five hours while crews cleared the wreckage and investigators documented the scene.
