Habersham Co., GA (January 16, 2026) – Two men were injured early on January 14 in a two-vehicle crash on Duncan Bridge Road (GA 384) near Cherry Circle in Habersham County.
The accident occurred shortly after 5:05 a.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol. Investigators said a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 44-year-old Eric Jones of Cleveland was headed south when he crossed over the double yellow lines while passing another vehicle in a curved section of the road. Jones reportedly lost control after returning to the southbound lane, sending his car into the northbound lane.
The Mitsubishi then collided with a GMC Yukon driven by 69-year-old George Barnes of McDonough. The front driver’s sides of both vehicles struck one another. Following the impact, the Mitsubishi ran off the west shoulder, struck a ditch, and came to a stop. The GMC moved backward, partially veered onto the east shoulder, and struck a guardrail before coming to a rest.
Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators are continuing to review the crash.
Our thoughts remain with both drivers as they recover from their injuries.
How Do Road Curves Contribute to Head-On Crashes in Habersham County?
Crashes on curved roads, like the one that occurred on Duncan Bridge Road, are more common than many realize. Curves naturally reduce a driver’s visibility, especially when approaching from uphill or downhill sections. This limited line of sight can make it difficult to detect oncoming vehicles or react to changes in the road ahead.
Attempting to pass another vehicle on a curve increases the risk of a head-on crash, particularly when crossing over double yellow lines.
Collisions in curved areas often result in front-end impacts. Even at lower speeds, these types of crashes can cause serious injuries. Drivers and passengers may experience head, neck, or chest injuries from hitting the steering wheel or being struck by an airbag.
Other common injuries include damage to the knees, hips, or lower body due to the force of impact. While some injuries may heal with rest and treatment, others may require physical therapy or long-term care.
When a car crash happens, it’s often confusing to know what to do next. That’s where having legal support comes in handy. A car accident lawyer can explain how fault may be determined, especially if a traffic law was broken. They can help with insurance claims, looking over medical records, and figuring out compensation options.
