Fulton Co., GA - Fatal Motorcycle Crash on I-85

Fulton Co., GA (June 30, 2025) — A tragic crash on Interstate 85 northbound claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Monday morning, June 30, in northeast Atlanta, authorities confirmed.

The collision occurred just after 7 a.m. near Lindbergh Drive beneath the Georgia 400 overpass. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the rider of a 1997 BMW motorcycle was traveling north on I-85 when the crash occurred involving a 2019 Honda C-HR.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and died at the scene. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.

Emergency responders, including Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta Fire Rescue, HERO units, and the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, arrived quickly to secure the area and begin their investigation. A tow truck removed one vehicle from the scene, while the motorcycle remained near responding units as authorities worked.

The crash caused major delays during the morning commute, triggering a Red Alert and bringing traffic on I-85 northbound to a crawl. Congestion stretched from the Downtown Connector through Buckhead, with travel speeds dropping significantly in affected areas. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

We extend our sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased individual.

Georgia Motorcycle Accidents

Fulton Co., GA - Fatal Motorcycle Crash on I-85Every year, Georgia families are devastated by fatal motorcycle crashes—sudden, tragic events that forever alter lives in a matter of seconds. Whether navigating Atlanta’s congested highways or cruising through quiet rural roads, motorcyclists face heightened risks each time they ride.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, hundreds of motorcyclists are killed or seriously injured across the state annually. Unlike drivers in passenger vehicles, riders have little protection in a crash, making even minor collisions potentially fatal. From metro freeways like I-75 and I-285 to remote stretches of highway, the danger is everywhere.

Several factors frequently contribute to fatal motorcycle accidents in Georgia:

  • Limited Visibility: Motorcycles are smaller and easier to miss, especially at intersections or during lane changes.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol or drug use by motorcyclists or other drivers continues to be a major cause of deadly crashes.
  • High Speeds: Speeding not only reduces reaction time but also increases the force of impact in a crash, often with fatal consequences.
  • Driver Inattention: Too often, drivers fail to check blind spots or notice approaching motorcycles until it’s too late.
  • Road Hazards: Potholes, gravel, slick pavement, and debris that might be minor nuisances to cars can be deadly for motorcycles.
  • Reckless Driving: Whether it’s aggressive lane weaving or ignoring traffic laws, reckless behavior on Georgia’s roads often ends in tragedy.

When a loved one is lost in a motorcycle crash, families are left not only with unbearable grief but also with mounting questions and financial uncertainty. Funeral costs, lost income, and the emotional toll can feel impossible to bear alone.
