Two Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on I-285 Near Buford Hwy

Doraville, GA (November 20, 2025) – A tragic wrong-way crash on Thursday morning, November 20, claimed two lives and left another person injured on Interstate 285 near Buford Highway in DeKalb County.

Around 4 a.m., a driver entered I-285 eastbound from the Buford Highway exit ramp going the wrong way. The car collided head-on into a minivan moving in the right direction. The impact caused both vehicles to erupt in flames.

Firefighters arrived quickly and battled the flames while paramedics worked to save the victims. The wrong-way driver died at the scene. Two people from the minivan were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one later died from critical injuries.

Investigators said the same driver struck another vehicle near the Buford Highway exit before entering the interstate. No injuries were reported in that earlier crash.

Crews shut down most eastbound lanes of I-285 for several hours as investigators examined the scene and cleared debris. The roadway reopened around 7:30 a.m. The Doraville Police Department continues to investigate the cause of this tragic incident.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this crash. Our thoughts are also with the injured, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
