DeKalb County, GA (May 25, 2025) – An overnight crash on Interstate 285 southbound inner loop exit to Interstate 20 (Exit 46) led to traffic delays and at least one reported injury early Sunday morning, May 25. The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m., blocking the left lane on the ramp and prompting a response from emergency crews.
First responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist those involved and assess injuries. At least one person was reported hurt, though the severity of the injuries has not yet been released by officials.
The crash caused significant slowdowns for drivers attempting to merge onto I-20, as the blocked lane created congestion along the ramp. Authorities worked to clear the scene and reopen the affected lane to restore normal traffic flow.
Motorists were advised to use caution in the area and seek alternate routes if possible. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with those injured in the crash, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
Georgia Car Accidents
Car accidents remain a leading cause of injury and death in Georgia, with DeKalb County seeing its share of serious collisions every year. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, more than 1,700 people lose their lives in traffic crashes statewide annually, and tens of thousands more are left dealing with injuries—many caused by preventable behaviors like speeding, distracted driving, or driving under the influence.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a crash in DeKalb County, it’s crucial to understand the range of injuries that can occur and how they may affect your life:
- Whiplash and Soft Tissue Damage: Sudden jolts during a collision can strain muscles and ligaments, especially in the neck and back. These injuries might not appear immediately but can cause long-lasting pain and limited mobility.
- Head and Brain Trauma: From mild concussions to severe traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), head injuries are common in car accidents and often require extensive treatment and long-term care.
- Spinal Cord Injuries: Damage to the spinal column can be life-altering, potentially leading to partial or full paralysis. Prompt treatment is critical to improving long-term outcomes.
- Broken Bones and Fractures: High-speed impacts can cause painful fractures to the arms, legs, ribs, or face, often requiring surgery and prolonged recovery periods.
- Internal Injuries: Collisions can cause unseen damage to internal organs due to blunt force trauma, which can be life-threatening if not diagnosed quickly.
- Emotional and Psychological Trauma: The mental toll of a crash can be just as serious as the physical damage. Many survivors experience PTSD, anxiety, or depression after an accident.
