Pedestrian Fatalities in Columbus
Pedestrian deaths remain a growing concern in cities like Columbus, where busy roadways like County Line Road and Manchester Expressway pose serious risks to those traveling on foot. These multi-lane roads are often filled with fast-moving traffic and can be especially dangerous during low-light conditions, such as early morning or evening hours. In many cases, drivers fail to see pedestrians in time to stop, and the consequences are devastating.
When someone is struck by a vehicle, they have no protection from the impact. Unlike drivers who are shielded by a vehicle frame and airbags, pedestrians face the full force of the collision. This often results in traumatic head injuries, broken bones, internal bleeding, or worse. Many pedestrian crashes are fatal, and surviving families are left with overwhelming grief and difficult questions about what went wrong.
If a driver is found to have acted negligently—whether due to speeding, distraction, impaired driving, or failure to yield—the victim’s family may have legal grounds to file a wrongful death claim. These claims are designed to provide financial relief by covering funeral and burial costs, medical expenses, loss of income, and emotional distress. More importantly, they offer families a way to hold the responsible party accountable.
Establishing liability in a fatal pedestrian crash often requires a thorough investigation, including the review of dashcam or traffic camera footage, police reports, vehicle data, and eyewitness accounts. These pieces of evidence are essential in determining the cause of the crash and what legal steps can be taken next.
