Cobb Co, GA (June 24, 2025) – A fatal collision late Saturday night near Interstate 285 in Cobb County has left one person dead, according to officials.
The crash occurred on June 21, shortly before 11 p.m., along the westbound lanes of I-285 at the South Cobb Drive off-ramp. Authorities say a gray 2010 Toyota Camry collided with a white 2024 Dodge Ram tow truck that was situated in the median separating the ramp from the main roadway.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, where the driver of the Camry—identified as 69-year-old Oluwakayode Elutilo of Atlanta—was pronounced dead by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office. The driver of the tow truck was not injured.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing. More details will be released as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
Georgia Car Accidents
Georgia’s roads have become the backdrop for far too many tragedies in recent years, with fatal car accidents claiming thousands of lives across the state. From the fast-moving interstates of metro Atlanta to rural two-lane highways, deadly crashes continue to impact families and communities on a daily basis.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the state sees hundreds of thousands of traffic collisions each year, and a significant portion result in loss of life. Metro areas like Atlanta often account for a high share of fatal crashes due to heavy traffic, high speeds, and complex driving conditions. But rural areas also see deadly wrecks, where higher speeds and delayed emergency response times can worsen outcomes.
Several contributing factors are commonly linked to Georgia’s fatal traffic accidents:
- Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drug use remain among the leading causes of deadly crashes statewide.
- Excessive Speed: Driving above the speed limit dramatically reduces reaction time and increases the severity of collisions.
- Distracted Driving: Texting, using a GPS, or even adjusting the radio can pull a driver’s attention away at the wrong moment.
- Reckless or Aggressive Behavior: Tailgating, illegal passing, and ignoring traffic signals continue to cause senseless and preventable deaths.
- Driver Fatigue: Long shifts, late nights, or extended travel often lead to drowsy driving—a silent but deadly factor in many crashes.
- Poor Road or Weather Conditions: Rain, fog, and neglected road maintenance can all contribute to fatal outcomes, especially at night or in unfamiliar areas.
For families who lose a loved one in a traffic accident, the grief is overwhelming—and often compounded by sudden financial burdens. Funeral expenses, loss of income, and unanswered questions can create enormous stress during an already heartbreaking time.
