Cherokee Co., GA (November 15, 2024) – A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision on Tuesday evening.
The wreck took place in Cherokee County on the Cumming Highway near Jordan Lane, according to police. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., and police were sent to the scene shortly afterward. When they arrived, they found suggestive evidence that the involved vehicle was an Amazon delivery truck.
One deputy saw an Amazon truck turning onto Bishop Drive while responding to the scene. Shortly after, a Canton trooper found the consistently damaged Amazon truck on Bishop Drive, matching evidence at the crash scene.
The victim was identified as 79-year-old Sandra Fitts of Canton, who was struck by the truck that then fled the scene and kept delivering packages. Police in Cherokee County continue to investigate. The driver of the Amazon delivery truck will likely face felony charges connected to the crash for leaving the scene.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
