Savannah, GA (December 19, 2025) – A pedestrian was hit and killed late on December 16 on East President Street, between Riverview Drive and Capital Street, according to the Chatham County Police Department.
Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the lead agency investigating the incident, reported that the crash happened around 11:01 p.m. Emergency crews responded after a call came in regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on East President Street near Woodcook Street.
According to GSP, one vehicle was heading east in the left lane of East President Street when it struck the pedestrian, who was reportedly in the roadway wearing dark clothing. The driver of that vehicle immediately pulled over and attempted to help the victim.
Shortly after, a second vehicle, which was traveling in the right lane, also struck the pedestrian, making contact with the victim’s head. That driver also stopped and remained at the scene.
Chatham EMS arrived shortly afterward and pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 11:01 p.m. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. The crash remains under active investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased victim during this challenging time.
Pedestrian Fatalities on President Street in Chatham County
Pedestrian crashes in Chatham County—especially on high-traffic roads like President Street—can quickly turn deadly. These roads often lack proper lighting and pedestrian infrastructure, making them hazardous at night. When pedestrians wear dark clothing or attempt to cross outside designated crosswalks, drivers may not see them in time to avoid a collision.
Even with drivers stopping and trying to help, a secondary impact—as occurred in this tragic case—can result in severe trauma or death. These accidents often raise questions about driver speed, visibility, roadway conditions, and whether pedestrian safety features were present.
For families who lose loved ones in such tragic events, a wrongful death claim may help provide some form of justice and financial relief. These claims can assist with funeral costs, loss of income, and emotional suffering. Proving negligence may involve examining traffic camera footage, vehicle data, driver statements, and witness accounts.
