Charlton County, GA (November 14, 2025) – Four people, including one child, were injured in a crash involving a school bus and a van on November 14.
According to the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred along US-1 near Crews Community Road, between Folkston and Waycross. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
Three adults in the van were transported to a local hospital with injuries. One student riding the school bus was also taken to the hospital. Officials said the bus driver was driven to the hospital separately by a school supervisor.
The Charlton County School System confirmed that all injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the student, bus driver, and van occupants injured in this crash, and we wish them a smooth and full recovery.
School Bus Accidents in Charlton County
School bus crashes, though less common than other types of traffic accidents, can be especially concerning due to the involvement of children. In rural areas like Charlton County, where long stretches of highway like US-1 are heavily traveled by both commercial and personal vehicles, the risk of collisions increases—especially during busy morning hours when students are being transported to school.
According to data from the Georgia Department of Transportation, school bus-related accidents in the state have declined over the years, but incidents still occur regularly. When they do, they can result in a range of injuries, from minor to severe, for both children and adults. In this recent crash, it’s fortunate that none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening. However, even non-life-threatening injuries can result in long-term medical expenses, emotional distress, and missed time from work or school.
Victims of these types of accidents may be entitled to compensation through a personal injury claim. This could cover hospital bills, ongoing treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering. In cases involving multiple parties, such as school systems and other drivers, determining liability can be complex. That’s why it’s important to speak with an experienced attorney who understands Georgia’s personal injury laws and can help victims protect their rights.
