Georgia Car Crashes
Fatal car accidents remain one of the most tragic and persistent problems on Georgia’s roads. Every year, families across the state are forever changed by crashes that could have been prevented. In 2022 alone, Georgia saw more than 1,800 lives lost in motor vehicle accidents—part of a disturbing upward trend that continues to impact communities statewide.
From congested interstates to fast-moving rural highways, Georgia’s roadways present serious risks. Cities like Atlanta, Augusta, and Macon see especially high volumes of traffic, where even a brief lapse in attention can result in irreversible tragedy. Over the past several years, fatal crashes have increased across the state, driven by several common and avoidable causes, including:
- Distracted driving, particularly texting or using mobile devices
- Excessive speed on both highways and neighborhood streets
- Impaired driving due to alcohol or drugs
- Drowsy driving and falling asleep behind the wheel
- Running red lights and failing to follow basic traffic laws
When a life is lost in a crash, the aftermath is devastating. Families must endure not only grief and emotional trauma, but also the financial burden of funeral costs, medical expenses, and lost income. The road to justice can feel long and complicated, especially when trying to hold negligent drivers accountable.
