Pedestrian Accidents in Atlanta

Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle Near Pryor St and Garnett St

Pedestrian safety remains a growing concern across Atlanta and throughout Georgia, especially in congested downtown areas. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, pedestrian fatalities have increased over the past several years, with urban intersections like Pryor St and Garnett St often seeing higher risk due to heavy foot and vehicle traffic.

Many pedestrian accidents occur when drivers fail to yield at crosswalks, become distracted, or speed through yellow lights. Even low-speed impacts can result in devastating injuries, including head trauma, fractures, and internal injuries.

Georgia law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians within crosswalks and to exercise due care in all roadway situations. However, both drivers and pedestrians share responsibility for staying alert and following traffic signals. Enhanced enforcement and public awareness campaigns by GDOT aim to reduce these incidents, but collisions continue to occur far too often.
