Georgia Auto Collisions
Each year, thousands of individuals are injured in car crashes across Georgia, with many incidents caused by negligent driving. In 2022, an estimated 1,700 people lost their lives in the Peach State due to traffic accidents. Georgia typically sees around 130,000 injury-related wrecks annually, resulting in over 30 deaths per week. Tragically, the majority of these collisions are preventable, as they stem from driver negligence.
Negligence behind the wheel takes many forms, including speeding, driving under the influence, and distracted driving. At present, driver distraction is the leading cause of auto accidents in Georgia and the broader United States. Nationwide, distracted driving accounts for over 400,000 crashes annually, with smartphone use being one of the primary culprits.
New data from 2023 highlights the ongoing challenges in Georgia’s road safety. Traffic-related fatalities reached 1,800 for the year, with nearly 25% of those deaths linked to speeding. Additionally, impaired driving caused approximately 420 fatalities, while distracted driving continues to be a significant factor in both injuries and deaths on the state’s roads.
