Lagrange, GA - Toddler Ejected, Injured in I-85 DUI Crash

Lagrange, GA (May 12, 2025) – A young child sustained serious injuries after being ejected during a vehicle accident on Interstate 85 in Troup County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:24 p.m. on May 11, in the northbound lanes near mile marker 24. Authorities report that a 2007 Lexus ES350 veered off the left side of the highway. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to swerve across the road and ultimately strike a stump off the right shoulder.

Tragically, a toddler was thrown from the vehicle during the impact. The child was rushed to West Georgia Regional Hospital with serious injuries and remained hospitalized as of Monday.

In addition to the toddler, three other passengers suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital in Columbus for medical treatment. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Apreschal Shantez Rembert of Decatur, is now facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) and serious injury by vehicle, among other related offenses. The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope for the full and rapid recovery of the injured victims.
