Douglasville, GA - Multi-Vehicle DUI Crash with Injuries on I-20

Douglasville, GA (July 4, 2025) — A Georgia Department of Community Supervision employee is facing DUI charges after causing a multi-vehicle crash late Thursday night, July 3, while behind the wheel of a state-issued vehicle.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the chain-reaction incident unfolded just before midnight on Interstate 20 East in Douglasville. The initial crash involved a white Honda Accord that had veered into a guardrail. While Douglasville Police were on scene investigating that collision, a separate, more serious crash occurred nearby.

Troopers say a black Ford Explorer — an official vehicle from the Department of Community Supervision — struck an orange Toyota Corolla traveling in the left lane. The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control. The Explorer then hit a Mitsubishi Outlander in the center lane before careening into a parked Lexus on the left shoulder.

The wreck left multiple lanes blocked, prompting authorities to close I-20 East for several hours while they cleared the debris and conducted a full investigation.

Once GSP arrived at the scene, they identified the driver of the Explorer as Alexis Friendly, a community supervision officer for the state. Troopers determined Friendly was under the influence at the time of the crash. She was placed under arrest by troopers from GSP Post 4 in Villa Rica and later transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla suffered serious injuries and was initially treated at Douglas Wellstar before being airlifted to Kennestone Hospital for advanced care.

The crash investigation remains ongoing.

We extend our best wishes for a rapid recovery to all the injured individuals.

Georgia Car Accidents

Douglasville, GA - Multi-Vehicle DUI Crash with Injuries on I-20Driving under the influence remains one of the deadliest threats on Georgia’s roads, and the consequences are felt in communities across the state every single day. From metro Atlanta to rural counties like Henry and beyond, impaired drivers continue to cause devastating crashes that leave victims facing severe injuries, emotional trauma, and financial hardship.

In 2023 alone, Georgia saw over 1,780 traffic fatalities, and a significant portion of those were linked to alcohol or drug impairment. Thousands more people suffered serious injuries in collisions that, in many cases, could have been entirely avoided.

Impaired driving doesn’t just mean alcohol. Prescription medications, marijuana, and illegal drugs can all impair judgment, delay reaction time, and make it unsafe to be behind the wheel. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly one-third of all traffic deaths in the U.S. involve a drunk driver, and Georgia is no exception to that alarming trend.

Injury crashes involving intoxicated drivers often occur at high speeds, during nighttime hours, or at busy intersections. Victims of these wrecks may be left with:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Broken bones and internal bleeding
  • Chronic pain and mobility loss
  • Emotional distress, PTSD, and anxiety
  • Mounting medical bills and time away from work
