Atlanta, GA (May 16, 2025) – Several people sustained injuries after a collision between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 20 near the Panola Road Overpass early Friday morning, May 16.
The eastbound lanes of I-20 were shut down around 2:55 a.m. as emergency crews and investigators worked to assess the crash scene and clear the wreckage. Upon arrival, crews found the tractor-trailer overturned, with officials reporting a minor fuel leak from the vehicle.
Details regarding the cause of the accident and the condition of those injured have not yet been released. Traffic lanes reopened by approximately 6:30 a.m., though authorities warn that intermittent closures may occur later in the morning to facilitate the complete removal of the overturned truck.
We wish those hurt a rapid and complete recovery.
Georgia Car Accidents
Georgia sees more than 300,000 traffic accidents each year, with many involving large commercial trucks. These crashes often result in serious injuries, especially when massive vehicles like semi-trucks collide with smaller passenger cars. Each year, nearly 130,000 people are hurt in Georgia traffic accidents, and truck-involved collisions account for a significant portion of those injuries.
If you’ve been injured in a crash with a commercial truck, you may be facing painful injuries, high medical costs, time away from work, and emotional trauma. Filing a personal injury claim can help you recover the compensation you need to manage these burdens and begin rebuilding your life.
Most truck-related accidents stem from preventable human error. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 9 in 10 crashes nationwide are caused by driver mistakes. Common causes in truck collisions include:
- Speeding or unsafe lane changes
- Distracted driving (such as texting behind the wheel)
- Driver fatigue, especially from long-haul schedules
- Impaired driving due to drugs or alcohol
- Inadequate driver training or vehicle maintenance
Injuries from truck accidents can be life-altering, ranging from broken bones and internal injuries to traumatic brain injuries and long-term disabilities. Unlike minor car crashes, trucking accidents often involve complex liability issues, including trucking companies, insurers, and multiple vehicles, making it vital to have strong legal representation on your side.
