Atlanta, GA - DUI Driver Causes Injury Crash on I-75

Atlanta, GA (March 7, 2025) – The Georgia State Patrol charged a 20-year-old driver in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 75/85 on March 7. At approximately 3:20 a.m., the collision occurred near the North Avenue Exit. Police spotted a wrong-way driver heading north in the southbound HOV lane. The trooper attempted to stop the driver, identified as Addison Thornton, 20, but she had already collided with a 2018 Buick Encore.

Thornton allegedly failed a DUI test and was found with a fake driver’s license, police said. She is charged with DUI, operating a vehicle on the wrong side of the road, possessing a fraudulent driver’s license, underage consumption, and serious injury by motor vehicle. Two people inside the Encore were transported to Grady Memorial Hosptial by ambulance. Their names have not been reported at this time. Police in Atlanta continue to investigate the incident.

We hope for the full and swift recovery of all the injured victims.

Georgia Car Crashes

In 2022, over 300,000 auto accidents happened in the Peach State, injuring thousands of people and taking the lives of thousands more. Throughout the United States, more than 6 million car crashes happen per year, injuring around 3 million individuals and ending the lives of approximately 40,000.
